“I used to see the Cherry Blossom box on my grandmother’s bedside table—a pre-bedtime treat. A cheap and gaudy reminder of her Polish homeland and the sour cherry preserves she grew up on. They remind me of her resilience and to not take for granted the privilege her sacrifices have afforded me. I’m an advocate for restaurant workers. My lived experience of difficulty in this industry informs this work and my privilege feeds my capacity to do it.”
